Les Deux Alpes
With its high snowsure slopes, Europe’s biggest skiable glacier area
and varied pistes, Les Deux Alpes offers outstanding scenery and
exciting skiing. Five black runs lead right into the village and a cable
car and lifts link to La Grave, one of the most challenging off-piste
runs in the French Alps. With virtually guaranteed snowcover from October to
May, Les Deux Alpes is also a snowboarding mecca, hosting the highest
snowboarding championship in the world. The village itself has a
reputation for lively nightlife and the children’s fun area offers
activities including a toboggan run and snowscooter track.
The main resort of the Dauphine
region, Les Deux Alpes is very popular with the Brits. It offers
fantastic snow and has a glacier (3568m), the largest in Europe, which
allows summer skiing.
Beginners* Intermediates***
Advanced** Snowboarders***
Beginners and
intermediates have plenty of choice, but should be aware that the level
of skiing isn't accurate on the piste map. Many of the blue are
quite challenging and can get very crowded (particularly at Le Jandri)
also there is only one easy run back to the resort. The lift system,
though, is very efficient.
Advanced skiers should
head to the La Fee area for testing black runs and to nearby La Grave
for some of the best off-piste around.

An overall good resort for those who want both good skiing and
après-ski, with La Grave and the glacier particular pluses. It has a
good range of shops and restaurants, plus varied and lively nightlife.
There are non-skiing activities, including 'Le Tanking Center' for a
'sensory deprivation experience' and the hamlet of Venosc with its craft
shops. Plus, Grenoble Airport is only 90 minutes away.
